Excitement Builds as We Prepare to Host the 2026 Under 18 & National Junior Wheelchair Championships
We are proud to announce that the 2026 Under 18 & National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Championships are coming to our venue from April 11th to April 19th, bringing some of the nation’s most talented young athletes to Queensland. This prestigious event will be co-hosted by Basketball Australia and the Northside Wizards Basketball Association, with valued support from Tourism & Events Queensland (TEQ) and the Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC). Together, these partners are helping deliver an unforgettable championship experience for athletes, families, and fans alike.
The National Junior Wheelchair Championships remain a cornerstone of the event, showcasing the skill, determination, and spirit of athletes who meet the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation’s classification criteria. Formerly known as the Kevin Coombs Cup, the competition continues to honour its legacy, with teams still competing for the iconic Kevin Coombs Cup Trophy—a symbol of excellence in wheelchair basketball and an important part of Australia’s sporting history.
Across both tournaments, state-based teams from around the country will come together to compete at the highest junior level. These championships provide a platform for young athletes to demonstrate their dedication and passion for the game, while representing their communities with pride. The atmosphere promises to be vibrant, competitive, and full of memorable moments both on and off the court.
Our team is excited to welcome players, coaches, officials, and supporters as our venue transforms into the national home of junior basketball for the nine-day event. We look forward to creating a warm, energetic environment for all involved and celebrating the future stars of Australian basketball throughout this incredible championship.
